CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect George Valera is set to undergo surgery to repair a ruptured patellar tendon on Wednesday at the Cleveland Clinic.

Valera, who is ranked the No. 21 prospect in the Cleveland organization, was carted off the field during a game at Triple-A Columbus on Sept. 10 after attempting to make a leaping grab at the wall.

Valera is expected to miss 6-9 months.

This season at Triple-A, he has appeared in 90 games with the Columbus Clippers, posting a .248 batting average with 17 home runs and 50 RBI’s.
