SPRINGFIELD, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine spoke once again in Springfield Tuesday afternoon.

The governor spoke to the press around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17. He addressed recent developments in Springfield and answered questions from the media.

During the conference, DeWine shared that he visited Springfield schools this morning, meeting with students, staff and the troopers on-site to provide additional security.

According to the governor, there was one threat to three school buildings this afternoon, but like all other threats received, this one was also determined to be unfounded.

Troopers will continue to provide extra security on school grounds as Springfield works toward going back to normal. While all threats have been unfounded, DeWine hopes the state support will ease parents, students and staff worries.

DeWine also spoke on Monday regarding the more than 30 bomb threats Springfield has received over the last week. During his speech, he said Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers would arrive to provide additional security to Springfield schools .

During Tuesday’s press conference, Springfield superintendent Dr. Robert Hill and Mayor Rob Rue also spoke, thanking the state of Ohio for the additional resources in the past seven days.

Dr. Hill says attendance has been low in the past week due to fears, but he hopes students will return thanks to the additional security. He understands that the situation over the past week has been an “extreme emotional toll” on students, families and staff, but will continue to work with state and local leaders to bring schooling back to normal.

When asked about the possibility of a visit from former President Donald Trump , DeWine said any political candidate is welcome to visit, but to keep in mind how limited resources are for the city of Springfield.

Mayor Rob Rue added that while presidential candidate visits are typically encouraged, it would be very difficult to host due to resources being stretched very thin at present.
