(WKBN) – For the first time in two decades, there will be a new Clerk of Courts in Trumbull County.

Current Clerk of Courts Karen Infante Allen is retiring at the end of her term.

Democrat Jennefer Holland and Republican Randy Law are running to be her successor.

“I want this job because the people deserve to have an experienced, qualified person,” said Holland.

“I’m running on my background and what I can bring to the office, and that’s what I’ve pretty much focused on,” said Law.

Holland has worked for the Clerk of Court’s Office for 18 years. She has been Allen’s administrative assistant and is currently the chief deputy clerk for the Juvenile Division.

“It really isn’t about your affiliation. It’s about knowing the job and being able to get that done and be there for the people of Trumbull County,” Holland said.

Law served one term as a state representative in the early 2000s. He is a previous chairman of the Trumbull County Republican Party and has had a number of small businesses.

“I think it’s important to have a fresh set of eyes. It’s going to be an open office that we have a fresh set of eyes take a look at how things are run,” he said.

Both Holland and Law explained why voters should pick them for the job.

“You will get an experienced candidate. You’ll get someone that’s qualified, that knows the job. Like I said, I can hit the ground running — zero learning curve. I’m ready to take on this position and be your next Trumbull County Clerk of Courts,” Holland said.

“I think my overall background and experience make me very well qualified for this job. It’s largely administrative, and I think I’ve done very well in that area,” Law said.
