YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Reports said a man accused of driving away with a running SUV has been charged with robbery and theft.

Angel Martinez, 46, was booked into the Mahoning County Jail Friday on the charges. He is expected to be arraigned Monday in municipal court.

Reports said police were called about 11:10 a.m. Friday to the 3300 block of Freeman Avenue, where a man said he was washing his windows and had the SUV running when a man later identified as Martinez jumped in and drove away.

The man’s grandson also said he saw him get in the SUV and drive away, reports said.

Police were out on another call on Canfield Road when they saw a man who resembled the description of the person who took the car run into the woods. He was later spotted in the parking lot of St. Christine’s School and taken into custody.

Reports said he had a cellphone on him that belonged to someone who recently had reported it was taken, reports said. The SUV was found at a parking lot at Canfield and South Meridan roads, reports said.

Reports said the owner of the SUV and his grandson were both able to identify Martinez as the person who took the vehicle.
