WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man is facing abduction charges after a woman reported that he took off in a vehicle with her children after an argument.

The incident on Monday nearly set off an Amber Alert, though a police report notes that officers were able to find the children, as well as the suspect.

The incident started just before 9 p.m. An Akron woman called police to report that her ex-boyfriend had left her stranded at a bar on Mahoning Avenue.

She told police that she went to pick up the suspect, Antonio Carter, from jail and took her two children, ages 2 and 4, with her. She said they were on their way back to Akron when she and Carter got into an argument and Carter pulled her out of the truck on Mahoning Avenue and left her there, breaking her phone in the process, according to a police report.

The woman said Carter then took off with both of the children in the vehicle.

The woman told police that a family member of Carter’s picked her up and she got out of the vehicle at a nearby laundromat and called 911.

Police later found the children at the woman’s mother’s house, and Carter’s truck was down the road from his house. Police arrested Carter after he later showed up at the mother’s house, the report stated.

Carter was transported to the Summit County Jail, facing local abduction charges.
