HARRISBURG, Pa. (WKBN) – A set of children’s rings sold on Amazon is being recalled due to the presence of dangerous metals, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the recall of Newmemo Children’s Ring Sets due to high levels of lead and cadmium. The product exceeds the maximum federal content level allowed in children’s products.

“Lead and cadmium can be very harmful if ingested, especially for a young child,” said Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen. “Parents and caregivers should dispose of any rings and packaging of the set. Lead exposure, even at low levels, can affect brain development, lead to cognitive impairment, learning disability and behavior issues in children.”

The 36-pack of rings was sold exclusively on Amazon between January 2022 and March 2024. It came in multiple designs in a pink heart-shaped case. “Newmemo” and “Amazon FNSKU X0034COQMP” are written under the barcode attached to the underside of the case.

    Effects of lead poisoning include:

    • Difficulties in learning
    • Growth interference
    • Harm to hearing
    • Developmental delays
    • Coma
    • Convulsions
    • Death

    Effects of cadmium poisoning include:

    • Damage to the lungs and kidneys
    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Weakening of bones
    • Potential of causing cancer

If you purchased these rings for your child, the Pennsylvania Department of Health recommends having your child tested for lead and cadmium exposure. Catching it early can prevent the most serious effects, the department says. You can contact your healthcare provider for information about testing.
