WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man accused of attacking and trying to rob a pregnant nurse has been indicted.

Roge Berger, 35, of Youngstown, faces aggravated robbery and felonious assault charges. An arraignment was set Thursday morning in Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas.

Berger was accused of assaulting a nurse in the parking lot of Trumbull Regional Medical Center earlier this month. Police were told that Berger tried to steal her car and then took off shirtless down Laird Avenue.

Officers located Berger walking on South Street, between Bonnie Brae and Homewood, where he was arrested.

A police report indicated that the nurse had injuries to her head and face, and she complained of pelvic pain.

She told police that she was sitting in her car after her shift ended when the suspect ripped her door open and pulled her out. She was able to push Berger to the ground and tried to get back in the vehicle to lock the doors but was unsuccessful, the report stated.

The victim stated Berger then slammed her head against the car and began punching her in the face. She said she fought with Berger for about three to four minutes before witnesses came to help and another nurse called 911.

Police spoke with ER staff who said just before the incident occurred, Berger had checked himself out of the hospital against medical advice. He was there seeking drug rehabilitation treatment, ER staff said.

Madison Meeker contributed to this report.
