YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The lawyer for a 20-year-old man accused of a December shooting outside a South Side club has notified a judge his client will be claiming self defense.

Attorney Aaron Meikle earlier this week filed the notice before Judge Maureen Sweeney on behalf of his client, Jonthony Altreche , of Youngstown.

Meikle also asked that his client’s $750,000 bond be modified.

The case is set for a pretrial hearing on Wednesday and a jury trial on Oct. 7.

Altrech faces charges of aggravated murder, murder and illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor permit premises for the Dec. 10 shooting death of Ty’Rice Logan , 26.

Altreche was not arrested until more than a month later after a chase. He was indicted on a charge of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer for the chase.

Logan was shot several times at about 4:45 a.m. December 10 on the sidewalk outside a 2210 South Ave. nightspot.

A murder warrant was issued on December 15. Police have refused to discuss a motive except to say the shooting was not a random act. At his preliminary hearing in municipal court, prosecutors said the shooting is on video.

Altreche was arrested Feb. 3 after a chase on the East Side when officers tried to pull over a car he was a passenger in on Wilson Avenue. The car refused to stop and led police on a short chase before crashing. Altreche was recognized and taken into custody without incident.
