YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A man originally charged with felonious assault for firing a gun at a woman and hitting her in the head with a chair pleaded guilty Wednesday to an amended charge of a misdemeanor charge of assault.

Andrew Smith , 36, entered his plea in municipal court before Judge Carla Baldwin and was fined, according to court records. The records do not indicate how much the fine was.

Smith was arrested last week by U.S. Marshals on a warrant for an Aug. 26 incident in the double-digit block of Hilton Avenue.

Reports said officers were already on another call on the street when they received an alert for a gunshot sensor activation. When they went to the area the sensors detected gunfire, they were waived down by a woman in a car who said she was arguing inside the home with Smith when he hit her in the head with a chair.

After he hit her, the woman told police she decided to leave, and as she left, she heard at least two shots.

Police went to the home but could not make contact with Smith, reports said. Reports said police found two .40-caliber shell casings in the driveway.

Reports said the woman was not hit by gunfire.
