CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown celebrated 150 years in the Mahoning Valley, giving an update on its Fullness of Life, Future of Hope campaign on Thursday.

The $10-million campaign will focus on three initiatives: the retirement needs of the sisters; ministries in education, spiritual growth and pastoral care; and updating their facilities with safety measures.

There are 26 sisters with a median age of 80.

“Most of our sisters continue to be involved in some type of contribution to Ursuline Sisters’ mission — some of them still working full-time, some of them working part-time, and just about everyone doing some type of volunteer work that [services] the people of the greater Youngstown area,” said Sister Mary McCormick, general superior at Ursuline Sisters.

The sisters have been serving the area since 1874.
