YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A man arrested earlier in the month in Youngstown and wanted on a warrant at the time out of Girard was indicted by a Mahoning County Grand Jury on Thursday.

Daraeius Joy was indicted on charges of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and aggravated possession of drugs, fourth and fifth degree felonies, respectively. He is also facing misdemeanor traffic charges.

Joy was arrested Sept. 3 in Youngstown after police pulled over his vehicle for repeatedly swerving left of center. When speaking with officers, reports state Joy admitted he did not have a license due to a hold out of Girard Municipal Court for a separate incident that took place in Liberty Township.

During the stop, Joy was found to be in possession of a pistol, despite the ongoing court case. Police also discovered a bottle of oxycodone pills with no prescription during the stop, reports state.

Girard Municipal Court records show Joy appeared in court after his recent arrest, where he was sentenced to pay a fine for the charges under their jurisdiction.
