YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – This week, WKBN has a doubleheader as Poland will be matched against South Range on Friday in a contest that’ll decide first place in the Northeast 8, while Mooney visits Boardman on Saturday.

Other games to keep an eye on are as follows:

    September 27
    New Castle (4-0) at Aliquippa (3-1), 7 p.m.
The Red Hurricanes, under first-year head coach Fred Mozzocio, has New Castle playing at high level as they’re off to a 4-0 start and are averaging 40 points per game. The Quips are reeling from their first loss of the season to Penn Hills (21-13). Aliquippa is led by their first-year coach Vashawn Patrick. Aliquippa won the 4A state title by defeating Dallas last year.

    Reynolds (4-1) at Cambridge Springs (4-1), 7 p.m .
The Blue Devils fell to Greenville in Week 3, 17-0, but have won their last two games by scoring 36 points in each outing (vs. Saegertown and Iroquois). Reynolds rebounded from their 34-12 setback to Sharpsville to top Lakeview last Friday, 36-26.

    Western Reserve (5-0) at Campbell Memorial (2-3), 7 p.m.
The Blue Devils are seeking their first 6-0 start since 2018 (6-0). Reserve has won their last eight regular season games. Coach John Armeni’s team has won its last two games versus McDonald in overtime (35-34) and over Lowellville on the road (41-22). Campbell is eight points shy of being 4-1 – losses to LaBrae by one (26-25) and against Lowellville (26-19). The Red Devils have the opportunity to garner their third win – that hasn’t happened at Campbell since 2019 (4-6).

    Canfield (2-3) at Dover (3-2), 7 p.m.
The Tornadoes opened the season with a 3-0 mark before facing a pair of undefeated teams in Indian Valley and Steubenville in each of their past two outings. Coach Dan Ifft’s group returns home to face Canfield. The Cardinals began the season at 1-2 before defeating Poland (17-10) in Week 4 at home, but then falling to Chaney 22-0 – the first time that Canfield has been shut out since September 20, 2019 at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (38-0).

    Wilmington (3-1) at Farrell (1-4), 7 p.m.
The Steelers have gotten by Wilmington in each of their last five meetings. The two programs have squared off in the playoffs in three of the past four years.

    Recent District 10 playoff meetings:
    2023 2A Semifinal: Farrell, 36-7
    2021 2A Championship: Farrell, 48-6
    2020 2A Championship: Wilmington, 19-14

    Struthers (4-1) at Hubbard (4-1), 7 p.m.
Hubbard has posted a perfect 3-0 record at home this year by outscoring the visitors 129-32. The Eagles are seeking to get back in the win column after last week’s 28-0 loss at Poland. The Wildcats played their first road game of the season last Friday at South Range as they dropped a 37-13 decision, despite gaining 285 yards of offense.

    Girard (3-2) at Lakeview (4-1), 7 p.m.
After being on the road for the past three weeks, Lakeview returns home – a site that has been extremely comfortable for the Bulldogs this season. Lakeview defeated Holy Name and Jefferson in the first two weeks by a combined total of 73-0. After opening the season with two straight wins, Girard met three opponents in a row that were undefeated at the time of their game (West Branch, Struthers, Pymatuning Valley). The Indians were able to post a 21-13 win against the Lakers last Friday.

    Lowellville (3-2) at Mineral Ridge (3-2), 7 p.m.
Lowellville has an even 1-1 record in the MVAC Scarlet Tier with three straight road games on the docket (against Mineral Ridge, McDonald and Jackson-Milton). The Rams are currently undefeated in league play (2-0) and want to keep pace with Springfield and Western Reserve.

    Warren JFK (4-1) at Mogadore (2-3), 7 p.m.
The Eagles have won two games in a row (against Grand Valley and Marlington) after falling against LaBrae in Week 3. Warren JFK is bouncing back from a two-win season. Following a rare 0-3 start to the year, Mogadore has run off two-wins in a row versus Newark Catholic (39-7) and Ellet (34-18).

    Hickory (4-1) at Niles (1-4), 7 p.m.
This marks the first meeting between the Niles Red Dragons and the Hickory Hornets. This will mark the 45th year in school history that Hickory has played a team from Ohio. The Hornets bounced back nicely from a hard-fought six-point loss to Sharon (20-14) by winning a thriller against Erie (27-25) last Saturday. The Red Dragons are seeking a turnaround as they’re currently owning a 1-4 mark and a two-game losing streak.

    Fitch (5-0) at Ursuline (4-1), 7 p.m.
The Falcons are playing their third game in a row away from home and fourth in the past five weeks. Fitch seeks their first 6-0 start since 2020 (7-0). The Fighting Irish return home after playing three of their last four games on the road. Ursuline has won their last four games. During that span, the defense has allowed a total of 16 points. Ursuline and Fitch have split their last two meetings.

    Minerva (1-4) at West Branch (5-0), 7 p.m.
The Warriors have scored 48 points or more in four of their five games this year. West Branch’s defense has allowed an average of eight points per game. The Warriors have defeated Minerva in each of their last four meetings by a combined score of 253-20.

    Valley Christian (4-1) at Wellsville (1-4), 7 p.m.
Since dropping their season opener to Malvern (36-16), Valley Christian has won their last four games. Over their last two outings, the Eagles have scored 102 points. Ja’Sean Lindsey ran for 321 yards and scored four times in Valley Christian’s 56-38 victory over East Palestine last weekend. The Tigers earned their first win of the season by topping Leetonia 35-0.

    September 28
    Sharon (4-1) at Meadville (3-2), 7 p.m.
Meadville lost their two matchups with fellow 6A teams – Butler (35-11) and McDowell (49-21) — but has been averaging 43.7 points in their three wins this year. Sharon’s defense once again is a tall task for any opponent. In their four wins – the Tigers’ defensive unit has held the opposition to just 27 points.
