    Valley construction update: Plan your drive

    YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Along with ongoing construction work in the Valley, a new ramp closure in Mahoning County will impact drivers on Interstate 680 next week, among other road work.

    MAHONING COUNTY

    On Thursday, Oct. 3, the ramps at the Midlothian Blvd. and the I-680 interchange will have various short-term closures for lighting improvements.

    The $1.3 million lighting project began in Fall 2023 and will wrap up this year. Ramps will not be closed at the same time. All detours will be posted. The project will also include ongoing lane restrictions until the work is done.

    Work is ongoing on the resurfacing of Route 165 in Beaver and Springfield Townships. There are various lane restrictions between SR 165 and S. Range Road through late October 2024.

    Reconstruction of State Route 170 is ongoing in New Middletown and Springfield Township. Southbound, SR 170 is closed between Struthers Road and Woodlawn Road through mid-October. The detour is SR 617 to SR 165 to SR 626 to SR 7 to US 224 to SR 170.

    TRUMBULL COUNTY

    The $20 million Diverging Diamond Interchange project is ongoing in Howland Township. The following restrictions and closures are in place through November 2024:
    •    State Route 46 between Market St. and US 422 has various lane restrictions.
    •    State Route 82 between Elm Rd. and Howland Wilson Rd. has various lane restrictions.
    •    The ramp from E. Market St. to SR 82 is closed through November 2024. The detour is E. Market St. to SR 46 to SR 82.
    •    The ramp from SR 82 eastbound to SR 46 northbound is closed through late spring 2025. The detour is SR 82 east to SR 193 to SR 82 west to SR 46.
    •    The ramp from SR 46 south to SR 82 east is closed through late spring 2025. The detour is SR 82 west to Elm Rd. to SR 82 east.
    Estimated completion, fall 2026.

    Resurfacing on state routes 46 and 88 in Green and Mecca townships will have lane restrictions through June 2025 between SR 87 and SR 88 and SR88 to Mosquito Lake.

    State routes 46 and 169 in Niles are being resurfaced. Various lane restrictions are happening between Robbins Ave. and Niles Vienna Rd. for State Route 46 and between State Route 46 and US 422 for State Route 169. That work should be done by the end of next month.

    COLUMBIANA COUNTY

    On September 30 and October 1, State Route 46 will close west of East Palestine during daytime hours for a culvert replacement project. The detour is as follows: Beginning at the intersection of SR 46 and SR 7 in Columbiana County, go North on SR 7 to SR 14, go East on SR 14 to SR 165, go East on SR 165 to SR 170, then go South on SR 170 back to SR 46, and reverse. All work is weather permitting.

    A culvert replacement in Negley will close State Route 154 beginning Sept.23. The closures will be in the daytime only. The detour is SR 170 north to SR 14 east, SR 14 east to SR 51 south, SR 51 south to SR 168 south, SR 168 south back to SR 154, and reverse.

    A three-mile-long resurfacing project on U.S. Route 30 from the West Point Interchange to just west of Route 7 will close one lane of traffic throughout the project, which is expected to be done by Oct. 31.

    Major repairs are closing State Route 39 in Salineville. Almost 5 miles of State Route 39, from Salineville to Steubenville Pike Road in Highlandtown, is being rehabilitated. The work is divided into three sections, requiring a 60-day closure per section.

    State Route 39 is closed to traffic from State Route 164 to Clarks Mills/Steubenville Pike Road for 60 days. Following the completion of this section, State Route 39 will close from State Route 164 to East End Road in Salineville for 60 days. The final phase of this project from Clarks Mills Road/Steubenville Pike Road to Highlandtown will be completed in 2025 and will require a 60-day road closure.

    A project to resurface a two-mile section of State Route 7 from the southern end of East Liverpool to Campground Road in Wellsville. One lane of north and southbound traffic will be maintained throughout the project, which will be completed on October 31, 2024.

    These are projects that are handled by the Ohio Department of Transportation and do not include projects at the municipality or county level.
