SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) — Sharon Regional Medical Center announced Friday it has a new treatment option for adults diagnosed with heart failure.

CardioMEMS™ HF System is a minimally-invasive outpatient procedure that has proven effective in the prevention of worsening heart failure. It has shown a reduction in hospitalizations as well as lower mortality rates and improved quality of life.

The system uses a small sensor the size of a paperclip that once placed in the pulmonary artery monitors for pressure changes that indicate worsening heart failure even before patients feel symptoms.

Remote access to daily pressure readings allows the patient’s clinical team to make treatment changes as needed.

“Earlier detection and diagnosis are how we will make heart failure a more predictable – and therefore manageable – disease,” the medical center said in a statement.

Navdeep Tandon, MD, Interventional Cardiologist, performed the first procedures at Sharon Regional Medical Center on Monday.
