YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The Anthony Spano Foundation announced on Monday the creation of a new memorial fund dedicated to preserving local industrial heritage.

The Thomas E. Leary Memorial Fund of $25,000 aims to aid archival collections, documents, artifacts, and other initiatives related to labor, business, technology and more by funding non-profits in these sectors.

Leary was a history professor at Youngstown State University, and through his consulting firm, Industrial Research Associates, he provided research and mitigation services to various organizations. He was also the Director of Interpretation at the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Societies.

“Tom’s dedication to preserving industrial heritage was unparalleled,” Elizabeth Sholes, wife of Thomas E. Leary, said in a news release. “The establishment of this fund is a fitting tribute to his legacy, ensuring that future generations will continue to learn from and appreciate the rich history of our industrial past.”

The Anthony Spano Foundation is a nonprofit organization and fiscal sponsor that seeks to positively affect the lives of individuals and families in need.
