Officers were called about 12:13 p.m. Sunday to a home on Salinas Trail where a male told them he had been robbed at knifepoint leaving a dollar store on Route 224. He said that a man walked up to him as he was leaving the store, brandished a switchblade and demanded money and his cellphone. The alleged victim said that he ran away to his friend’s house on Salinas Trail where he called police.

Officers became skeptical when the alleged victim could not describe the robber and his story kept changing, according to the police report. Officers said the alleged victim finally admitted to lying about the robbery to “prank” his friends into thinking he had been robbed.

Four Boardman police units were dispatched to the call and a search was conducted for the alleged suspect.

The alleged victim’s mother showed up and police told her that charges would be considered.
