EAST PALESTINE, Ohio (WKBN) – The East Palestine Education Association (EPEA) has officially notified the school board of their intent to strike beginning in two weeks.

The strike would start Oct. 21 unless a contract agreement can be met.

Monday night the School Board passed a resolution to keep schools open during the strike. This would allow Superintendent James Rook to hire substitutes and a security firm for the district.

The administration and the union have met eight times since last school year, half of those with a federal mediator.

Bargaining teams are scheduled to meet again on Oct.16.
