JobsNOW: Growing business needs workers in Lordstown

LORDSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – There’s a Trumbull County business that is growing fast.

M&M Industries is family-owned and operated and specializes in packaging. The company has expanded with an extra 79,000 square feet at its Lordstown facility where it makes pails. The company has also added double the machines in use. There are 100 workers at the plant and more are needed.

M&M Industries made its first pail in Lordstown three years ago and just went to around-the-clock production with 14 machines.

The company has open positions for entry-level operators who handle and stack the pails that are made, but they also need skilled workers, including processors.

“So the key role for a processor is to make all the adjustments on the pails. They do the mold changes and they make sure that the final product before we release it to the customer is what is in spec,” said PJ Sirianni, M&M Industries plant manager.

The pails hold three and a half gallons up to 12 gallons. Many of them will ultimately hold pool chemicals. There is some training in-house for the processor position, but M&M prefers an applicant have a little background in molding. The process technician sets up all the components, mold, material and color for a run.

“And this area, there is a lot of injection molding out here, but it takes a special skill set to be able to adjust these machines and get them running,” Sirianni said.

M&M is also hiring for a maintenance position to keep the machines running, which keeps the manufacturing going. It makes five to seven truckloads of pails a day.

“It’s a lot of wrench turning and stuff like that, as far as hydraulics and motors, but there are some nuances where you have to understate schematics and being able to troubleshoot PLC programs. So that’s huge here,” Sirianni said.

M&M Industries prides itself on a family environment and teamwork. It also has two plants in Chattanooga and another in Phoenix.
