YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – First News sat down with Mahoning County Commissioner candidate Jennifer Ciccone to discuss the race.

Watch the full interview in the video above.

Ciccone is running as a Republican to challenge current commissioner Anthony Traficanti for the position. You can watch Traficanti’s interview here .

Ciccone said she wants to make a change because she’s invested in this community. She said she is the only one out of all of the commissioner candidates who is raising young children.

“I want them to grow up in the Mahoning County that I grew up in. We had GM back then, we had jobs,” she said. “Every location has its issues but I really want Mahoning County to be a place that people are proud to call home.”

Ciccone said her law degree, as well as her background in communications and business, make her a well-rounded candidate suited for this role.

She said she’s not focused on comparing herself to her opponent but instead wants to show voters why she’s the best person for the position.

Ciccone said the biggest challenge if she wins the election would be getting everyone to put their political differences aside to work toward the common goal of making Mahoning County the best it can be.
