YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Thursday was a big field trip day for third graders in Youngstown.

The kids took part in Safety Superheroes Day at Choffin Career and Technical Center.

They got to explore topics like fire prevention and nonviolence awareness hands-on. They were able to touch a fire truck, control fire hoses and even watch a drone demonstration.

The event also gave the kids positive exposure to those in the community who are there if they ever need help.

“To have exposure to folks in our community that are there as helpers — the police department and fire department is all here with their personnel to represent — and it gives one-on-one connections with them to see their faces, see them at this event and, hopefully, see them as a positive in their lives,” said Mike Saville, Choffin director.

This was the first time Choffin hosted the event. It hopes to do it again next year.
