BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – In all aspects of Boardman High School, senior Zach Haus goes above and beyond.

“It’s kind of just like, do everything to the best of my ability, just if I see it, just go do it, and to be able to see it is great for me,” Haus said.

The two-sport standout is the starting quarterback on the football field, where he holds the school record for most completions in a single season, after breaking former Spartans and Browns legend Bernie Kosar’s long-standing record.

Haus finished with 202 completions while completing 62% of his passes and totaling nearly 2,000 passing yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior.

“It means a lot to me, putting in all the work in, it’s paying off,” Haus said. “There’s really no other feeling like it — to be out there with your guys you’ve spent so much time within this community; that’s so great.”

Along with a couple of years of varsity basketball as well, Haus also gets it done in the classroom with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

That puts him on track to earn an honors diploma while also getting involved in the National Honor Society, Italian National Honor Society and Italian Club around the school.

“Well, my sister, she always did great in school, so I want to follow after her,” Haus said. “And my parents, I wouldn’t say they were like, very strict on me, but they like, kept me in check. They made sure I was getting good grades and… just doing hard work that separates you.”

But what a lot of people might not see is the work he does around the Spartans community, volunteering with Big Spartan Little Spartan and plenty of help at youth football and basketball camps and games.

“I’d say it was the same thing for me as a kid. I always looked up to the position I am now in to do that for others like younger kids. It means a lot,” Haus said.

After graduation, Haus is interested in studying either electrical or mechanical engineering.

Haus and the Spartans are back in action as they take on Howland on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
