    Boardman football rolls to 5th win of season

    BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Boardman football team is off to their best start in six years after a 35-7 win over Howland Thursday night.

    The Spartans have now won five straight against the Tigers and, most likely, locked up a playoff spot in Division II Region 5 this season.

    The Spartans started the scoring in the 1st quarter with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Zach Haus to Terrell McDowell. They extended the lead to 14-0 after a short run from Kyle Hoffman.

    Howland cut into the lead in the 2nd quarter when Davae Honzu scored from 5 yards out, but that was the Tiger’s only trip to the endzone.

    Boardman got short touchdown runs from both Keith Smith and Marcus Rutledge later in the 2nd quarter and led 28-7 at half.

    With the win, the Spartans improve to (5-3) on the season will play at Austintown Fitch next Friday night. That rivalry game will air live on MyYTV as the WKBN Game of the Week.

    Howland falls to (1-7) on the season and will look to rebound next Friday against Canfield.
