BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – An investigation is ongoing Friday morning after a shooting in a Boardman neighborhood.

Around 2 a.m., Boardman police responded to a house on Oakridge Drive.

According to a police report, a man was shot in the leg. The report identified the suspect as the current boyfriend of shooting victim’s ex-girlfriend. According to the report, the suspect reportedly left in a burgundy-colored Honda toward Mathews Road.

Police found the victim lying in the road with a gunshot wound on his right leg and a severe cut on his forehead. An ambulance transported the victim to the hospital.

Police tried watching surveillance video of the incident and found that there was no recording of it and that the cables for the camera had been cut. Officers then found a pair of wire cutters, a screwdriver, motor oil and a funnel underneath a vehicle parked in the driveway.

Police briefly spoke to the victim in the hospital who said he went to his ex-girlfriend’s house and that they had been arguing over her breaking up with him. He admitted to parking at an unknown apartment complex and walking 15 or 20 minutes to the woman’s house.

The man told police that he was leaving when the suspect shot him and that he fell down and hit his head on the ground. He denied that any words had been exchanged between him and the shooter before the shooting, the report stated.

Police questioned the shooting victim if he had been damaging vehicles in the driveway, and he said, “I don’t think so,” and when asked about cutting a wire for the security camera, he stated, “I think I did that,” the report stated. He then stated he was going there “to do some dumb s**t,” according to the report.

Andrew Peterson and Chelsea Simeon contributed to this report.
