BERLIN CENTER, Ohio (WKBN) – Driving around the Valley, you won’t have to look far to see houses with Halloween decorations. One located in Berlin Center has the hairs on everyone’s neck sticking up.

The Brown family lives on Berlin Station Road where husband and wife, Shannon and Jennifer, have proudly put their Halloween display for the past four years. It’s all made by hand.

“We’re both into cars, so I would take skeletons in the cars all the time. and then during COVID, we couldn’t do car shows. We couldn’t go anywhere. We started building props, and that’s really when we started doing the bigger things,” Jennifer said.

“We actually made the coffins, painted them, did some designs on them, but the pirate ship is probably the best — it’s a favorite,” Shannon said.

The pirate ship idea came up about two years ago, Jennifer explained, and things took off from there.

“We built it and then it was kind of ‘Oh, we can do this.’ Then this year, we had some more ideas and it just keeps going,” she said.

Those ideas include the addition of more clowns and zombie babies, along with the toxic scene and their version of Children of the Corn. It’s safe to say this holiday creates quite the party for the Browns.

“I love putting the skeletons and all the different scenes. That’s my favorite thing is messing with them,” Jennifer said.

Shannon likes when people stop to take a look at their work.

“It’s the joy you get when people come and see it, and they just kind of smile and laugh. It makes them happy. The kids come and they run from thing to thing — just ‘Oh, look at this, and Oh, look at that,'” Shannon said.

Halloween is just under three weeks away. And this spooky season, the Browns are sure to have you running.

Lights on the display come on at dusk and are on for about four hours.
