Brown wants FEMA to be ready to help immediately when needed

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – In the wake of two hurricanes in recent weeks, Senator Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, says the Federal Emergency Management Agency needs to let lawmakers know if there is enough money to help all disaster victims across the country.

There has been widespread criticism of the agency for what some believe was the government’s slow response to Hurricane Helene, especially after the Biden Administration indicated FEMA needs more money from Congress to adequately support storm victims through the end of the year.

Senator Brown says the agency needs to be able to respond to all situations, including those happening in Ohio.

“I want to get help from the federal government for our drought. Ohio recently, a year ago, had a train derailment, a year and half ago — we want the feds to come and help us there, and where there are Lake Erie problems. I want the feds to help us just like there is this terrible hurricane and all tornadoes,” Brown said.

Brown says if the agency does need more money, lawmakers have an obligation to return to Washington to approve additional funding.
