    John S. Smock, Hermitage, PA

    HERMITAGE, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – John S. Smock, 82, of Hermitage, passed away Thursday evening, October 10, 2024, in Good Samaritan Hospice House, Wexford, Pennsylvania.

    Mr. Smock was born on August 15, 1942, in Sharon, a son of the late Stanley and Marie (Gladysz) Smock.

    He was a graduate of Hickory High School .

    He honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.

    Following his military service, John worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Upon the plant closure, he began working at Wheatland Tube until he retired.

    John was a member of the former St. Adalbert’s Church, Farrell.

    He was a car and motorcycle enthusiast and was a fan of NASCAR. John also enjoyed fishing at the Shenango Lake Dam. Above all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    His wife, the former Susan Burke, whom he married on February 15, 1985, passed away on December 29, 2015.

    He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Hartman and her husband Mark, Cortland, Ohio; a son, Jeff Smock and his wife Sandy Lovell, Branchburg, New Jersey; two step-daughters, Tracy Marek Bowes and her husband Scott, Mars, Pennsylvania, and Kelly Marek Archinal and her husband David, Painesville, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Devon Archinal and her husband Andrew Gross, Alex Archinal, McKenna, Brooke and Laney Bowes, Kassandra Ortiz and Marianna Franco; and three great-grandchildren, Niko, Xavier and Elizabeth. Also surviving is a sister, Linda Stifter; and two brothers, Robert Smock, both of Brookfield, OH, and Gerald Smock and his wife Debbie, Hermitage.

    In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Mila.

    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Good Samaritan Hospice House, 146 Neely School Rd., Wexford, PA 15090.

    Calling hours will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Tuesday October 15, 2024 in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.

    There will be a celebration of John’s life at a later date.
