    Local pumpkin contest winner 18 lbs shy of world record holder

    CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) — The 29th annual Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off was held at Parks Garden Center in Canfield on Saturday morning.

    Thirty people entered the contest, bringing pumpkins from all over the area. The contest’s winner, Dave Stelts, had a pumpkin that weighed 2,731 lbs –18 lbs shy of the current U.S. and world record giant at 2,749 lbs. He won the grand prize of $25,000.

    There was also a widest sunflower head and a longest gourd competition. Other fruits that competed in the contest were watermelons and tomatoes.
