BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police are investigating the theft of a vehicle in Boardman and an attempted theft that happened around the same time frame.

Just before 7 a.m. Monday, officers took a report that a 2017 Hyundai Elantra had been stolen from a carport on Glenwood Avenue. The owner of the vehicle reported that she noticed the vehicle was missing that morning and that a pile of glass from one of the windows was in the parking lot.

Neither the woman nor her boyfriend heard or saw anything suspicious, but police noticed there was another attempted theft of a vehicle in the same area.

During that incident, police received a report that a group of people attempted to steal a 2017 Kia Sorento early Monday morning in the 5000 block of Glenwood Ave.

Police said the vehicle’s passenger-side window was broken, and the steering column was peeled.

According to a police report, the vehicle had been parked in a carport and the alarm started going off around 1:20 a.m. A witness reported seeing a red Kia or Hyundai four-door sedan with a burnt-out left brake light leaving the area toward Allen Drive.

Officers checked the area for the vehicle believed to be involved in the attempted theft but were unable to find it.

The vehicle that had been stolen from the other location on Glenwood Avenue was found later that afternoon on Cedar Lane in Youngstown.
