AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – All Aboard! The Youngstown Model Railroad Association is hosting its yearly open house weekends.

The events serve as a way to gather train enthusiasts together. Guests can explore the models and see the trains, including layouts that showcase Youngstown’s Steel Industry and some of your favorite rides from Idora Park.

The event serves as a fundraiser but also helps expose more people to model railroading in the hopes of attracting new members.

“It’s good to have young people in. They have new ideas and can crawl under the layout and help with wiring,” said Bruce Silvernail. “They move forward because the era of railroads changed. A lot of our older members are into steam locomotives and things from the 30s and 40s. The newer guys are into the new diesels, the stuff you see every day. It lets the club evolve with the society.”

The open houses are the first two weekends of November and December – Nov. 2-3, Nov. 9-10, Dec. 7-8 and Dec. 14-15 and run from noon to 6 p.m. The club is located at 751 N. Four Mile Run Rd., Austintown.

A $5 donation is taken to help fund the association.
