HARRISBURG, Pa. (WKBN) – The State Museum of Pennsylvania is hosting a public, special event to delve into the history and significance of Fallingwater, the iconic architectural masterpiece by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Fallingwater is located in Mill Run, Pa., but this special event is being held at the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg and features an architectural model of Fallingwater from the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York.

The model was constructed by acclaimed model maker Paul Bonfilio in 1984. It will be on display in the museum’s Brockerhoff Hall through Jan. 5.

The special program takes place Oct. 20 at 1:30 p.m. when Justin Gunther, director of Fallingwater, will deliver a presentation that explores the property’s journey to becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site, joining places such as the Grand Canyon, The Great Wall and The Alamo, among other sites worldwide.

Spectators will learn about the preservation efforts that have safeguarded Fallingwater and its impact on the Laurel Highlands region.

The program is part of an ongoing series commemorating Fallingwater and featuring the special temporary exhibit, Seeing Fallingwater Celebrating Pennsylvania’s Architectural Masterpiece , including the architectural model of Fallingwater at the State Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 North Street, Harrisburg.

You can r egister for the event online.

Fallingwater is revered as a masterpiece of organic architecture that coexists with nature. The home is built among rocks with balconies that overlook natural waterfalls. It seems as if the house is built with nature throughout its construction not just around it.

You can visit Fallingwater from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The house is closed on Wednesdays. Admission tickets can be booked online.

Fallingwater is located in southwest Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands about 90 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. The house is located along PA Route 381 between the villages of Mill Run and Ohiopyle. It is approximately 19 miles south of the Donegal exit (Exit #91) of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) or 10 miles north of US Route 40.
