WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Trumbull County prosecutors are recommending a tough sentence for a Warren man convicted of possession of various drugs, including fentanyl, and bringing them into a jail.

According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office, Derrick D. Allen, 39, was found guilty last week in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court of possession of heroin, cocaine and fentanyl-related compound, all felonies of the first degree; as well as aggravated possession of drugs, a second-degree felony; tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony and illegal conveyance of prohibited items onto grounds of a detention facility, another third-degree felony.

He will also have to forfeit $468 to the state.

Prosecutors say that Allen possessed 128 grams of “street drugs, roughly the weight of a baseball” and was involved in drug trafficking.

“These substances were certainly not for personal use,” said Assistant Prosecutor Kevin Trapp said.

Prosecutors said that Allen is facing a minimum sentence of three to four years and a maximum of 40 years. Trapp will be recommending to the court a total of at least 20 years at Allen’s sentencing because of his prolific past criminal history.

Prosecutors point to records showing Allen was a convicted drug trafficker, having been sentenced to prison after felony convictions in 2007, 2010 and 2016. He also was convicted in a separate case of possession of heroin in 2016 and possession of fentanyl-related compound in 2022. In 2009, Allen was sentenced to prison for a Mahoning County conviction of possession of cocaine. In all, Allen has eight felony convictions.

Trapp said Allen would be “making a mockery of our system of justice by revolving in and out of prison without an increase in penalty.”

Sentencing for Allen is set for Oct. 29.
