BAZETTA TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – A Bazetta Township police officer charged with domestic violence had his first appearance in court.

Sgt. Nathan Greathouse, 43, pleaded not guilty in Trumbull County Central District Court on a domestic violence charge, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. Judge Thomas Campbell set a $1,000 personal recognizance bond and issued a temporary protection order for the alleged victim.

Campbell will also be asking the Ohio Supreme Court to appoint a visiting judge for the case.

Greathouse was arrested Friday after a woman told deputies he threatened to beat her and had his fists clenched in her face.

According to a report from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, the woman told deputies this wasn’t the first time she was either struck or intimidated.

When deputies went to speak with Greathouse, he told them he should have called earlier because she pushed him.

Bazetta Police Chief Christopher Herlinger says Greathouse is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case and the findings of an internal investigation.
