BAZETTA TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A six-vehicle crash killed one person and injured at least two others in Trumbull County Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened on State Route 5 in Bazetta Township just after 12:30 p.m.

Nicholas Stoian, 38, of Cortland, was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the teen driver of a 2021 Audi A7 was headed southwest on SR 5 and approaching a red light at the intersection with SR 305.

Troopers say the teen crashed into the back of a 2015 Ford Escape, driven by Stoian, which was waiting in traffic and stopped at the light. Stoian’s car was pushed into the car in front creating a chain reaction, with a total of six vehicles impacted.

One of the cars in the pile-up was pushed almost completely under the car in front of it, flipping the front car up, a traffic release states.

Troopers said the crash is still under investigation, although distracted driving is believed to be a factor.
