    Jay “Capey” Capehart, East Palestine, Ohio

    EAST PALESTINE, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Jay “Capey” Capehart, age 58, of East Palestine, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital, Boardman.

    He was born on October 25, 1965, in East Liverpool, the son of the late Lary and Rose Plummer Capehart.

    Jay was a 1984 graduate of East Palestine High School where he was involved in various school functions, including one act plays, and was also voted “class clown”.

    Jay had worked for nearly 22 years for Damascus Steel.

    He had attended the First Church of Christ in East Palestine.

    He loved music, especially 80’s music and was a member of the Cub Scouts band where he played the drums.  He loved fishing, boating and rating both movies and restaurants from best to worst.  He really enjoyed eating and loved dining out with his close friends.  Jay was an avid Cincinnati Bengals and Ohio State fan.  Mostly, Jay will be remembered as a big man with an even bigger heart.

    He is survived by his sister, Jodi Capehart of Niles, and by his close friends, Jim and Katrina Cartwright of New Springfield, Rube and Brenda Ginder of East Palestine, and Tim and Carol Cope of East Palestine.

    The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine.

    Services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine, with Pastor Nick Ellefson officiating.

    Burial will take place at East Carmel Cemetery.

    Arrangements have been entrusted to the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine.

    A television tribute will air Friday, October 18 at the following approximate times: 5:17 a.m. on WKBN, 8:39 a.m. on FOX, 5:21 p.m. on WYTV and 6:35 p.m. on MyYTV. Video will be posted here the day of airing.
