YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Reports said police Sunday found a loaded gun on a man who was seen running from a car that was reported stolen from a North Side gas station.

Denzel Jarrett, 20, was booked into the Mahoning County Jail on fourth-degree felony counts of carrying concealed weapons and receiving stolen property as well as a second-degree misdemeanor charge of obstructing official business.

He is expected to be arraigned later Monday in municipal court.

Police were called about 4:05 p.m. Sunday to the 200 block of Broadway Avenue for a report of a car behind an abandoned house. As officers arrived, three men ran from the car. Police initially chased them but lost them, reports said.

One of the men was spotted a few moments later on Broadway Avenue, and he ran away into Wick Park, where he gave himself up by the pavilion, reports said.

The man, later identified as Jarrett, admitted to having a gun when police asked if he had one, reports said. Officers found a loaded 9mm pistol on him, reports said.

Jarrett told police he did not steal the car but he was in it, reports said. He was charged with receiving stolen property because he admitted to being in a stolen car, reports said. He received the gun charge because under Ohio law, a person under 21 cannot have a handgun.

Police also found a ski mask and gloves in Jarrett’s jacket, reports said.

The car that was found had been reported stolen Thursday from a gas station on Logan Avenue , reports said. A woman told police then that three masked men approached her car as she went to pump gas, one of them pulled a gun, and they took her car.

Police searched but could not find the other two men, reports said.
