(WKBN) — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on Friday issued a proclamation formally directing state agencies to be ready to offer further assistance to local communities regarding damage following this week’s severe storms .

Tuesday was an extreme weather day in the Valley, filled with damaging wind gusts, heavy rain and even tornado warnings. There were several rotating thunderstorms across the Valley which prompted the tornado warnings.

DeWine ordered and authorized “all State departments and agencies to be at the ready and to utilize their personnel and resources as necessary to protect the lives, safety, health, and property of the citizens of Ohio and to assist with recovery efforts in communities impacted by this severe weather event if needed and requested by local authorities.”

Ohio EMA has closely been monitoring developments regarding the damaging storms since they developed on Tuesday and has been coordinating state agency response and is the central clearinghouse for local requests for state assistance.

The sole request for state assistance has been for the Department of Health assistance with medical supplies. Other state agencies, including the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, have been closely monitoring developments through their regulatory roles overseeing SNAP benefits and electric utilities, according to a news release.

Counties listed in the proclamation include Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Portage, Summit and Trumbull.

Ohio EMA will continue to monitor the progress of storm remediation and provide needed assistance that may be requested in the future. Such monitoring will continue as long as necessary, per the proclamation.
