'I learned a great deal': Mayor Brown graduates from Daemen University

We're congratulating Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown on a huge academic accomplishment.

On Saturday, the longtime mayor and Buffalo native graduated from Daemen University.

Mayor Brown received his Master of Science Degree in Leadership and Innovation.

"A lot of work, a lot of studying," said Mayor Brown. "I learned a great deal."

His wife, Michelle Brown, and son, Byron Brown II, were in attendance to show support.

"It was a super exciting experience seeing him cross the stage," said Byron Brown II. "It feels like all his hard work paid off."

"He's been working very, very hard in addition to doing his job, so we're very proud of him," said Michelle Brown.

Mayor Brown said that while it was difficult, being able to succeed made it all the more rewarding.

"I came as student Byron Brown. I didn't come as Mayor Byron Brown, there was no special treatment," he said. "There were times that I doubled up, tripled up on classes and it was a lot of work, but when you put your mind to it, you can do it."
