2,400 gallons of wastewater overflow in Mobile County: MCHD

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — A sanitary sewer overflow caused over 2,000 gallons of wastewater to overflow on Thursday, according to the Mobile County Health Department.

The Mobile Area Water & Sewer System responded to the overflow on Thursday near 1601 Cedar Downs Drive, an MCHD news release said.

OVERFLOW LOCATION:

The overflow was reportedly caused by a broken air release valve on the force main.

Approximately 2,400 gallons of wastewater overflowed due to the broken valve; officials said the overflow was contained and did not reach state waters.

“MAWSS crews stopped the overflow and will repair the valve to prevent further overflows at this location,” the release noted.

Dr. Kevin Philip Michaels, the health officer for Mobile County, advises area residents to take precautions when coming into contact with standing water that may have resulted from the overflow.

“Those who have come into direct contact with untreated sewage are advised to wash their hands and clothing thoroughly.”
