According to a news release, the field day event is an exercise and contest for North American amateur radio operators and is open to the public.

During the event, participants aim to “meet as many ham radio operators, also known as amateur radio operators, from around the world as possible and to pass messages to selected regional ham radio authorities,” the release said.

“I’m excited to welcome our amateur radio friends back to Escambia County’s Ashton Brosnaham Park for their annual field day, and I wish them a fun and successful event,” District 5 Commissioner Steven Barry said. “I encourage the public to come to watch amateur radio in action and learn more about the important service they provide.

Barry added, “I’d like to thank the Five Flags Amateur Radio Association for all they’ve done over the years in our community, and for sharing their expertise with the public through this exciting event.”
