“Perfection On The Plains” Part 1

AUBURN, Ala. ( WRBL ) – It’s been 20 years since the Auburn Tigers football team had one of the best seasons in school history.

Head Coach Tommy Tuberville led a talented group headlined by quarterback Jason Campbell, running backs Ronnie Brown and Carnell “Cadillac” Williams. Despite going undefeated, 13-0 and winning an SEC Championship, these Tigers weren’t allowed to play for the National Championship.

In WRBL’s new web series, “Perfection on the Plains,” we take a look back at the 2004 season with the men who lived it. We’ll hear former players, coaches and reporters that covered the season to reflect on that incredible journey for Auburn.

In this first episode, of a four-part series, we explore how a disappointing 2003 season set up the incredible run in 2004. The Tigers were expected to contend for the BCS National Championship in 2003, but Auburn stumbled to an 8-5 overall record. That disappointment of a season was a big reason why players like Campbell, Brown and Williams decided to come back to The Plains instead of start a pro-football career. That trio were the headliners of returning players but there was a ton of talent on both sides of the ball that gave Auburn fans a reason to be excited for the 2004 season.
