Gulf State Park Pier in Baldwin County to reopen Monday

GULF SHORES, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Gulf State Park Pier will reopen Monday morning, Aug. 19 after almost a year of being shut down for repair of damage done by Hurricane Sally in 2020.

Two hundred feet of the pier was destroyed. Repairs began in November 2023.

Hooks will once again hit the water off the end of the pier — something that hasn’t happened in almost four years — and the fish are waiting as seen by WKRG’s underwater footage.

The almost $14 million, 10-month repair job replaced or repaired pilings, decking, and railing, including the octagon at the end of the pier. The storm damage came just as a multi-million dollar renovation that included a new observation deck had been completed.

That deck will remain closed until a new elevator is installed but the bait and tackle shop, restaurant, and beach access are all scheduled to reopen Monday at 7 a.m.
