5. Gulf State Park Pier Reopens

Repairs on the Gulf State Park Pier are complete, and the attraction officially opened at 7 a.m. Monday.

Renovations began in November after the pier was damaged during Hurricane Sally in 2020. MD Thomas Construction, the same contractor that renovated the pier before Sally, repaired it again.

Anglers began fishing today, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place soon.

4. Gaetz & Dimmock Campaigning

Two men are vying for the GOP nomination for the Northwest Florida Congressional seat during the primary elections Tuesday.

Incumbent Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz is looking for a fifth term, and his challenger, retired Navy Officer Aaron Dimmock, is trying to unseat Gaetz.

Both men were out Monday stumping for votes. Polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m.

3. Biden speaks to DNC

President Joe Biden will deliver the keynote speech tonight at the Democratic National Convention along with his wife Jill.

The bulk of the DNC will focus on Vice President Kamala Harris’ run for president as well as her running mate Tim Walz and the future of the Democratic candidates.

The event will consist of four nights of speeches regarding the Democratic candidates, explaining how they will fight inflation and high prices, and guarantee abortion access.

2. LeFlore High School Air Conditioning Issues

LeFlore High School students went home early Monday because the air conditioning was out.

MCPSS officials told News 5 that the air conditioning went out due to a weekend power outage and construction issues on campus.

By Monday afternoon, the air conditioner was back working. Students will go back to class on Tuesday.

1. Missing teenager found safe

14-year-old Twyla Tarvin was reported missing Saturday afternoon but was found alive and safe on Monday afternoon .

Twyla was found after an extensive search of nearly 100 searchers, dogs, drones, and ATVs.

The searched area was near Jimmy Faulkner Drive between Spanish Fort High School and Spanish Fort Middle School.
