PENSACOLA, Fla. ( WKRG ) — Voters will hit the polls Tuesday, casting their votes in Florida’s District 1 congressional race.

Congressman Matt Gaetz and his opponent, Aaron Dimmock, focused on campaigning up until voters hit the polls.

Gaetz hosted a “Get Out The Vote Rally’ at Holland Farms in Milton on Monday, following his rally on Saturday at Palafox House in Pensacola.

“It’s been great to have such a strong connection with our constituents, whether it’s the challenges they have with the VA or their desire to see our military mission grow, or our care for our seniors in our area,” Gaetz said. “I’ve been fighting for our constituents on all of those fronts, and this is my performance review.”

Dimmock, a retired Navy Officer and pilot, also spent the weekend campaigning in Northwest Florida.

His team shared photos campaigning at Gallery Night in Pensacola, a pep rally in Okaloosa County and an early voting site.

WKRG News 5 sat down with Dimmock earlier this month.

Dimmock said voters in Northwest Florida are looking for an alternative to Gaetz, who is eyeing his fifth term in Northwest Florida.

“They’re ready to be done with the embarrassing behaviors that have continually been demonstrated, and this is an opportunity for them to hold that person and those behaviors accountable by voting him out,” Dimmock said.

Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Whoever wins will face Democratic candidate Gay Valimont in November.
