MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Red paint found at Baker High School Friday morning spelled “Theodore” on the sidewalk and “F— Baker” on a door. Baker and Theodore’s football teams are set to face off on the gridiron hours later.

“It’s at the main entrance,” School Board Member Johnny Hatcher said. “If you’re walking up the main entrance, you can look over, and you can see it.”

When Hatcher arrived at Baker High School Friday morning for an unrelated matter, he noticed toilet paper in the trees.

“When I get there, I talked with one of the assistant principals, and he says, ‘Well, that ain’t all what happened.'”

Football rivalry is practically unavoidable when the season starts, but Hatcher said “defacing government property” is where he draws the line.

“I don’t want anybody at our schools doing that to another school. Period,” Hatcher said.

Hatcher, a graduate of Theodore High School, said the vandalism happened in the overnight hours the night before the game.

“If those were students from Theodore who perpetrated this act, it’s going to really bother me,” Hatcher said.

Whoever is caught red-handed, Hatcher said, will face serious consequences.

“If they’re students and they’re involved in sports, they’re going to have some serious issues,” Hatcher said. “Either way, whether it’s a student or not, they’re going to have issues with the law.”

So far, no one has been caught, but Hatcher said that won’t last long as there are plenty of cameras on Baker’s campus.

“[Theodore Principal Timothy Hardegree] is fair, but he’s tough. He’s going to take a heavy hand with this situation,” Hatcher said.” If it’s our students, he’s going to take a heavy hand.”

Hatcher said the Mobile County Public School System is investigating the vandalism.
