MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Republican congressional candidate Caroleene Dobson said there were parts of her opponent Shomari Figures’ speech at the Democratic National Convention that she actually liked.

“He’s a very talented speaker,” Dobson told WKRG News 5 .  “I loved that he referenced the legacy of civil rights leaders in District 2.”

Shomari Figures spoke Thursday night at the DNC in Chicago. He touted the Civil Rights history of the newly formed District 2, referencing John Lewis, Rosa Parks, the Tuskegee Airmen and more.

Dobson said overall, though, Figures’ speech fell short.

“I thought missing were solutions to the problems that Alabama families are facing,” Dobson said. “Alabama families are struggling.”

Dobson said she and Figures have very different ideas on how to address those struggles which she hopes to make clear to voters before the Nov. 5 election.

Figures meanwhile hopes the energy of this week’s DNC will continue through November and lead to victories for both him and Kamala Harris.
