MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Several democratic delegates are back in Alabama after spending this week in Chicago at the Democratic National Convention.

With both conventions having passed, Republicans and Democrats say there are striking differences between party conventions.

“I think one of the things that you did not see, if you contrast and compare the two, the diversity, it was not at the RNC. It was at the DNC,” said State Rep. Barbara Drummond (D-Mobile).

“In contrast to the Republican Convention, they were saying about the different things they needed to do to get the economy back on track and get the nation moving forward,” State Sen. Keith Kelley (R-Anniston) said. “The vice president’s been in office for four years.”

State Sen. Vivian Figures (D-Mobile) explained how Kamala Harris’ story has impacted voters.

“All of that has truly inspired the voters and let them know just how much is on the line if we should lose this election,” said Figures.

But Rick Pate (R), Commissioner of the Department of Agriculture and Industries, said otherwise.

“Everybody’s in that cheering stage,” Pate said. “‘Yeah, we got that second team quarterback in’, and I don’t think there’s any difference. In some ways, I think Biden brought a lot more to the table than she does.”

When it comes to whose campaign is stronger right now, both parties still disagreed.

State Sen. Figures (D-Mobile) said, “Kamala Harris, her campaign talks about joy… so I look at her campaign as being the strongest. Because it is for all people. And that message was given during this whole week.”

“When we get to the debates, I think that’s really going to paint a clear picture for us,” said State Sen. Kelley (R-Anniston). “It seems like the grassroot effort for the Republicans is very strong.”

Voters will have their say in less than seventy-five days when the general election takes place on November 5th.
