Escambia County Fire Rescue shared on Facebook that firefighting units, Pensacola Energy, the American Red Cross, and Florida Power and Light responded to an apartment fire at the 9000 block of University Parkway around 12:52 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24.

    INCIDENT LOCATION:

According to the post, when units arrived, they found a working fire on the third story of a three-story apartment complex.

Units said they were able to locate the fire, which investigators say was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

They reportedly extinguished the fire before it could reach the attic space and cause significant damage. However, the post noted that the affected unit and the two units below received water damage.

“The occupants of all three units are being assisted with new housing from the apartment management company,” the post said. “The remaining occupants in the building were able to return to their homes.”

Authorities say there were no injuries or fatalities reported from the fire.
