5. A Beatles-themed Airbnb
It’s International Beatle Week – and fans of the Beatles are celebrating in Liverpool, England – the city where it all began.
And this year, they have a chance to spend the night where the Fab Four partied and played many of their first gigs before they became famous.
The Casbah Coffee Club has turned into an Airbnb 65 years later! The Beatles performed at the club more than 40 times. And all these years later – new generations of Beatles fans can “Get Back” and “Let it Be” at this Airbnb.
4. Apple Juice Recall
Walmart is recalling nearly 10,000 cases of apple juice, because they may contain harmful levels of inorganic arsenic.
The contaminated juice was sold under the “Great Value” brand in 25 states, including Alabama. No illnesses have been reported so far.
3. Pensacola 9/11 Memorial Possibly Vandalized
The City of Pensacola is working to determine whether a memorial in Downtown Pensacola honoring the victims of 9/11 was vandalized.
The memorial sculpture is in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza. A business owner walking his dog recently noticed a piece of the sculpture was missing and called the city.
The question is — was it vandalized — or did part of the sculpture break apart and perhaps someone grabbed it?
2. Baldwin County Gets a New Sheriff
There’s a new sheriff in town — in Baldwin County.
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey tapped Chief Deputy Anthony Lowery to finish the term of retiring Sheriff Hoss Mack.
Lowery is second in command at the Sheriff’s Office and has come up through the ranks through his decades with the sheriff’s office.
Lowery said he got the call from the Governor’s Office this morning. He called it a huge honor and said he looks forward to serving the people of Baldwin County.
The appointment will take effect immediately upon Sheriff Mack’s retirement at the end of the week.
