BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — An off-duty Louisiana State Police trooper accused of driving while intoxicated was arrested for the second time in 2024.

Louisiana State Police said Isaiah Gilbert, 28, of Hammond, was stopped after 1 a.m. Monday after his vehicle was seen crossing the divider line while driving south of I-110 in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Officials said Gilbert was on leave after a separate incident in March where he faced charges of driving while intoxicated (1st offense) and careless operation.

Gilbert gave a breath sample at Troop A which showed results registering above the legal limit, according to LSP. He was taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail and booked on charges of improper lane usage, driving while intoxicated (2nd offense), driving while under suspension for certain offenses, simple damage to property and open container.

“Gilbert remains on leave with all law enforcement property previously recovered pending the conclusion of criminal and administrative investigations,” LSP said in a news release.

Officials said Gilbert has been employed with the Louisiana State Police since 2021.
