OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — Deputies are investigating after a man drowned Saturday in Okaloosa County waters.

A Facebook post from the Sheriff’s Office says a 40-year-old visitor and his juvenile son were pulled out into the gulf by a rip current at James Lee Park. Both of them were rescued from the water and taken to the Destin Emergency department for medical treatment. The father did not survive. According to the post, as of Saturday, the victim’s son was in stable condition.

The post did not say where the man was from originally and did not publicly identify him. Red flag warnings have been up for much of the Labor Day weekend around Gulf Coast beaches.

Red flags should never be dismissed. Prayers go out to his son and family.

That poor child will need some counseling. That has to be horrifying to watch your daddy drown
